Croatia - Starigrad-Paklenica

Shall we continue the summer holiday posts?

View of islands, Croatia

Leaving Krk Island, we headed back to the Croatian mainland and followed the coast southwards towards our next destination, Starigrad-Paklenica. Sticking to the coastal road provided us with absolutely stunning views on the way and we easily passed the time gazing out at the sparkling blue sea, with  bright islands dotted just off the shore.

We arrived in Starigrad-Paklenica around lunchtime, checking ourselves in to yet another lovely apartment. Car unloaded and a quick grocery shop (as a bustling tourist town, Starigrad-Paklenica has plenty of small supermarkets along its main road), we headed straight out to explore - and make the most of some very welcome sunshine!

Feeling hungry, we made our way to another of the small supermarkets to pick up a picnic lunch of bread and cheese and settled ourselves down in a spot by the water to enjoy it.

Unfortunately, as was becoming a bit of theme with this holiday, the weather had other ideas and the familiar rain drops were making an appearance. We scooped up our books and towels and walked back to our apartment to wile away the time with card games and getting ready for dinner.

The first night in Starigrad-Paklenica we went to a grill restaurant on the main road for dinner and we ate while enjoying the views over the sea. The lovely thing about coming at this time of year is that we clearly avoided the real tourist-season. The town was peaceful, not crowded and we had no trouble finding spaces to eat or sit by the sea.

The next morning we packed our beach bags and found ourselves a pretty little spot pretty much opposite the end of our road. We shook out our towels and settled down to read in the warm sunshine, cooling off with dips in the sea and strolls along the seafront.

It was obviously a day for staying close to home, because we didn't get further than the end of our road for dinner either! Tempted in by the delicious smells of pizza, we sat down for a tasty meal before walking back up the road to pack our bags and get ready to move on in the morning.
