After breakfast in a Galway bakery, we continued our road trip north towards the village of Mullaghmore. We detoured west to Westport to explore Murrisk Abbey and the Great Famine National Monument and then worked our way along the coast to the pretty place that is Mullaghmore. We wandered around the harbour and along the beach, then dined in the hotel bar - taking it in turns to dash outside to capture photos of the harbour as the sun went down!
The next morning we took our time to enjoy the beauty of the location before getting back in the car and driving still further north. We crossed the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland near Derry. This was our first stop in Northern Ireland. I studied some of the history of Ireland at school and had seen photos of the murals and memorials, so it was interesting to see them for real.
From Derry, our journey took us a little further into Northern Ireland - to a very famous part of the Northern Irish coast. You'll just have to return tomorrow to find out where!
