You may have noticed that I have decided to change the name of this blog from 'Home with Jenny' to 'Ginevrella'. So hopefully in this post, I will be able to explain to you the reasons behind the change of name, and where 'Ginevrella' comes from. As my blog is still less than a month old, I thought now was the time to change it- leaving it any longer would get more complicated I think.
I never really liked the name 'Home with Jenny', but as blog names have always been one of the sticking points that have prevented me ever starting on before, I decided that I'd just go with it and change it later if I still didn't like it. One of the main reasons I didn't like it is the fact that I don't actually call myself Jenny! You'll see that I always sign posts and comments as Jennifer as this is by far the name I prefer.
Now I could of course have just been 'Home with Jennifer', but the name rather limits me in what posts feel relevant- anything 'out and about' just doesn't quite fit with the name. Plus I kind of thought 'Home with' sounded like a programme on a shopping channel or an old tv series- not quite the style I was aiming for with this blog!
"So where did 'Ginevrella' come from?" I hear you ask. I wanted to change my blog name to something still personal to me and I liked the idea of playing on my own name- Jennifer Elizabeth. Now, being rather slow off the mark in this world of nabbing domain names, most combinations of Jennifer Elizabeth had disappeared long ago. I had to get cleverer than that. I thought about using the meanings of my names to come up with something and looked them up. I wasn't particularly inspired by 'pure white wave' and 'an oath to god', but what did catch my eye was the variants on the names, diminutive forms and names in other languages. So the name for my blog comes from 'Ginevra' which is Italian for Jennifer (and I did study Italian for five years, so I feel like it's not totally random) and 'Ella' a diminutive form of Elizabeth. (Ginevra is also Ginny from Harry Potter by the way!).
So there you go. My new blog name. Have you struggled to come up with a name for your blog? Or do you have an interesting meaning behind yours? Please leave a comment!
